Silly Weekend Video

For those of you that saw the Avatar trailer, here is a funny little video making fun of it. If only the real Hitler could have been funny and entertaining...

Girlfriend of the Week

Does anyone even check out the GOTW anymore? Well if so, today is a lucky today. Last night I was catching up on some comics and I noticed that Emma Frost is wearing black now and instead of being the White Queen, is now the Black Queen? Apparently I missed that memo. So I have decided to post some pictures of Emma Frost, and hope that attractive girls will start dressing like her on a daily basis.

Obviously I could not put up a picture of Emma Frost and just ignore the great ones from Greg Horn. I remember when Wizard used to publish that covers magazine, and half of them would be Horn's Elektra and Frost...

And finally here she is in her black costume. Still hot, but I really wish I had some interest in what was going on with Marvel these days (aside from Daredevil, which continues to rock).

Eureka 3.0

As many of you know, one of my guilty pleasures is the show Eureka. I recently picked up the third season, or what I thought was the third season, only to get home and find out that it was the first eight episodes and the rest of the season will be out on DVD later in the year.

So far the season has been pretty good, nothing spectacular, but what can you expect? Most of the episodes feel like they have been done before, but it is the unique cast and the drama within their lives that makes the show interesting.

On a sad note, I should have realized that Nathan Stark would die as soon as I saw him on True Blood. He died on his wedding day saving the town (and probably the universe), and still managed to be a dick most of the episode. He will be missed.

A nice edition to the show is Ever Carradine, who plays Carter's wacky sister. She believes in spiritual things, plays weird music, does yoga...and is pregnant with twins. She adds a nice touch to the show by annoying Carter with her antics.

I look forward to the second half coming out on DVD in order to find out what happens. I mean, will Carter be brought back as sheriff? Will Ever Carradine's twins turn out to be space aliens? Will Carter and Allison hook up? There are all important questions...

MVP Watch

I have decided to post a MVP Watch each week on Tuesday. This first post will show the stats from when I wrote this post (14 August) until 24 August. Each week I recap their week using these stats: Hits/HRs/SB/BA/OBP/SLG/R/K/BB/Team Record for Week.

Why would I use team record for the week? Well it seems like something that should be tossed in there. This will give us the chance to discuss who had the better week and maybe even rank who is leading the race. I chose five players from each league, based mainly on the comments. For the NL: Pujols, H-Ram, Fielder, Braun, Howard (I chose him because he seems to light up in September, but Victorino or Utley should probably be the Phillies representative for this discussion). In the AL: Mauer, Texeira, Morneau, Abreau, and Crawford.

NL
Pujols: 7/2/1/.200/.391/.400/418/10/8-2
H-Ram: 17/2/1/.459/.512/.703/4/8/3/4-5
Fielder: 8/4/0/.242/.350/.606/5/9/6/4-5
Braun: 11/3/3/.314/.429/.629/8/0/6/4-5
Howard: 10/5/0/.270/.341/.703/9/9/4/7-2

AL
Mauer: 18/4/2/.450/.542/.775/9/2/8/6-4
Texeira: 10/2/0/.286/.390/.514/6/5/5/6-3
Morneau: 4/0/0/.308/.400/.385/3/2/2/6-4 He only played in 4 games during that stretch.
Abreu: 12/2/2/.293/.356/.463/8/13/4/6-4
Crawford: 14/0/1/.378/.410/.568/5/6/2/6-3

Rank (I came up with by taking the categories you led in and assigning points (1-5, leader gets 5 points, etc...I then totaled up the scores, very scientific--Offord, you should come up with something better for me.)

NL
Braun: 37
H-Ram: 34
Howard: 31
Pujols: 26
Fielder: 23

AL
Mauer: 47
Crawford: 30
Texeira: 27
Abreu: 27
Morneau: 19

Wow, this post took me forever to write. Obviously at this point Morneau is at a huge disadvantage. Before anyone says anything, I did keep track of ABs as well (I made a spreadsheet for this process). Joe Mauer had the second most ABs in that time span behind Bobby Abreu, so his being a catcher/DH did not really come into play.

Anyways, let's argue some more in the comments.

**UPDATE**
I had to change a few guys OBP because I did not add in Hit By Pitch, it only changed a couple guys. I was using the spreadsheet I created for our softball league, but thanks to WHYGAVS, I now know to use baseball-reference game logs and just highlight the dates I want...much easier.

True Blood: Jason is Your God

So the main complaint I am reading on the internet is that the episode tonight was way too short. It was definitely short, especially when you consider the first few minutes was another Eric/Sookie sex dream. Fortunately, the half hour or so of actual material was pretty awesome.

Jason, Sookie, and Bill arrive back home to find the place in complete chaos. Meanwhile Sam and Andy are trapped at the bar, Lafayette and Tara's mom have Tara tied up while she says weird shit with the creepy black eyes.

Sookie and Bill head to the house and confront Maryann, who shows that she is more powerful than either of them. Bill tries to bite her and he starts puking up green shit. She comes for Sookie, but Sookie shows another talent (no, not standing there being a moron). She has some kind of light come from her hand zap Maryann's face.

They escape and head to Lafayette's place, where Sookie and Bill are able to get her out of the trance. Sookie informs Bill of the chant she heard, and he remembers something he read long ago. He then heads to see the Queen. When he gets there we see her leg and blood dripping off her. She is not dead, probably just feasting on a bunch of people or something.

The funniest part of the episode was Jason pretending to be the god they are waiting for. He does his best to be all bad ass sounding, but in typical Jason fashion, he says dumb stuff. "Thank you for your offering, your crops will be good and umm..." funny stuff.

Remember what Daphne told Sam? She said that Maryann has some power over other supernaturals (I really wish Sam and Dean would show up and start killing). Apparently she can force shifters to shift, and she cannot be harmed by a vampire. Fortunately, her power does not seem to affect them. I wonder if Lafayette can be turned all blackeyed since he has a lot of vamp blood in him.

Also, I wonder why Tara's mom did not turn? How will Jason fare against Maryann? So many questions, and only two episodes left.

Inglourious Basterds

Last night I went to see Inglourious Basterds, the new film from Quentin Tarantino. Unless you just came back from a mission to reignite the sun, then you have probably heard about this film. The movie was awesome, it has all the things that make a Tarantino film great (violence, comedy, great music, homage to older films, great dialogue...)

The film is about two separate attempted to kill the German high command at a movie theater in Paris. The movie is set in an alternate universe, so history folks do not need to worry about anything being incorrect.

The Basterds are led by Brad Pitt's character, Aldo Raine. These men are Jewish American soldiers sent to France to perform guerrilla tactics. Raine wants his men to collect Nazi scalps and to basically become the thing of nightmares to the Nazis.

Pitt is hilarious as Raine. As usual, he is one of the coolest actors out there, and this is just another film where he does a fantastic job. Eli Roth plays the Bear Jew, a guy from Brooklyn who likes to beat Nazis with a baseball bat.

On a side note, I forgot how much I hate seeing movie premieres in State College. When Mike Myers came on screen, people started doing Austin Powers lines. Also, in a full movie theater, pulling out your phone to check your text messages is quite annoying.

I also saw something kind of funny while standing in front of my apartment. A couple of older gentlemen were heading into the Rowland to see the movie (how they were able to get a movie opening weekend is beyond me). I wonder if those guys thought it was going to be a serious WWII film.

Everyone knows Dianne Kruger is pretty hot, but I must say I really enjoyed Melanie Laurent. I thought she did an awesome job as Shosanna. And in a sad twist, she dies before seeing her master plan come to fruition. Actually both ladies die before the plan can succeed.

I want to see this again before I decide where it ranks among the rest of Tarantino's films. If you saw it, let me know what you thought.

Girlfriend of the Week

This week's GOTW is Joanne Kelly, the hot chick from Warehouse 13. I was going to post this last week, but then Greg posted his reasons for not liking the show and I felt like I should defend it. Actually though, it is just an average show, but I enjoy it for it's simplicity.

Anyways, Joanne Kelly is definitely hot and after a little research, I have decided I must check out this film:

District 9

As most of you know, I have been pretty excited to see District 9. Tonight I finally got the chance to see it, and let me just say that I was very impressed.

Without giving too much away about the movie, the thing that struck me the most was how at first you are frightened by these aliens. They are ugly and they seem quite dangerous. As the movie progresses though you begin to sympathize with them and even like them. You also start to see humans as the villain.

Sadly, it is not hard to imagine this being the way humans would react in a situation where aliens are stranded on our planet for a long period of time. Governments would want to do experiments and try to steal as much of their tech as possible, while people would fear and try to keep them contained.

I highly recommend seeing the film. In fact, I might try and see it again.

Death of a God(ric)

Everyone has been asking me my thoughts on this week's episode of True Blood, and let me just say that it was fantastic, yet very sad.

Godric decided to end his own life (or death? whatever) by walking out into the sun. He naturally had a nice talk with Sookie before the sun came up, he even says how after 2000 years he can still be shocked by humans. It was a very touching moment, especially Eric's reaction...

What else happened during the episode? Well Sookie and Jason sit down and have a nice chat about what's been going in their lives. This has actually been the first time in this series where they act like brother and sister.

We also got to see Eric being the best character on the show. After the bomb went off, he shielded Sookie from the blast, then tricks her into sucking some of the shrapnel from his chest.

She swallows some of his blood, which links her with Eric now. Bill informs her that she will also develop sexual feelings for him. Which, in a dream sequence, we see her with Eric.

Does anyone else see Sookie getting upset that when she drank Bill's blood the first time, he failed to mention this side effect to her? Remember how she started having those dreams about him before they first hooked up? Is Bill every bit of a jerk as Eric (probably, but Eric is much cooler)?

Also, Godric made a comment about the sun not taking too long to kill him. I wonder if the older you are as a vampire, the more sensitive you are to sunlight? Remember, Bill ran around outside for awhile and just got minor burns. This is interesting because it is the exact opposite of Anne Rice's vampires, who get so powerful after awhile that sunlight gives them a mild tan.

Lafayette seems to be unaffected by Maryann (could it be the V-blood?). It was fun watching him beat up on Eggs. Screw you and your washboard abs.

Hung

I have written about my love for True Blood, but what about the other HBO series on Sunday (not Entourage). I am talking about Hung. Let me say that the show is pretty good, but not great.

Thomas Jane plays a dad/high school basketball coach, whose house burns down and he needs money to pay to get it fixed. He decides to become a male prostitute because, well he has a very large cock.

The show is pretty funny at times, yet it feels like it should be on CBS or NBC. There is nothing that makes it mind-blowing or anything else like the other HBO shows. The most interesting thing so far has been his relationship with client Jemma (Natalie Zea, who is very hot). She hires Ray to make her happy, but not just through sex. This is the only point in the show where there is a difference between what a woman would want from a prostitute and what a guy would want.

Hopefully as the series progresses they take more chances and show Ray doing things that might not be expected.

Baseball Stuff

I was thinking today about my baseball predictions and whether or not I was close back in March, well it's time to find out.

NL East
Well I got the Phillies, Marlins, and Nationals correct. Not too bad. The Mets are out of it and Phillies seems to have the division locked up (I hope this jinxes them)

NL Central
I got the bottom two correct, but after that it's a jumble. The Cubs could overtake the Cardinals, and the same with the Astros/Brewers, they could flip-flop for me.

NL West
Arizona has been a disappointment, but at least I got the Dodgers and Padres right. If the Giants pass into second place, I will get the Rockies right.

AL East
I have this one 100%. Go me.

AL Central
I have Kansas City correct. This is one of those divisions that will come down to the last few games though, hard to say who will end up in the top three spots. Well not who will end up there, but what order.

AL West
Another division I am batting 1.000...so lets see 17/30 correct. Not too bad if you ask me.

What about some other predictions I made? I have the AL Wildcard correct, but not the NL. It seems to me that Albert Pujols is a lock for the MVP, but here are the people that should be noted as in contention. I will give some stats and whatnot (Ryan will then dispute them).
1. Pujols-Adjusted OPS+ 194
2. Willingham-162
3. Fielder-159
4. A. Gonzalez-158
5. H. Ramirez-154
6. Dunn-153

As you can see, Pujols is having a monster season. If you take him out of the mix, it seems like a pretty good race between the others. Adam Dunn is having a good season (he has less strikeouts and more home runs than Ryan Howard, uh oh...)

On the AL side, who do we have?
1. Mauer-181
2. Morneau-154
3. Youkilis-149
4. Kubel-146
5. Zobrist/M.Cabrera/Teixeira-144

Joe Mauer is having a fantastic season, yet he has the problem of playing with Morneau, who could lead in RBIs and Batting Average, which is all voters look at. Mauer does have 20 home runs, and as a catcher, I think that has to go in his favor.

In the Cy Young debate, the AL seems to be either Greinke or Halladay, Beckett could be in the discussion as well, but I think it ends up going to Halladay. In the NL, Lincecum and Haren seem to be the two favorites. I believe Lincecum should win it, but a strong case could be made for both. I think maybe the Pirates beating up on Haren, and only scoring like one run in two games against Lincecum sways me...

The ROY race seems to be pretty exciting, especially in the NL. If McCutchen keeps up the way he has been, he could very well win it. Fowler and Rasmus seem to be the leaders, but they also have a full season to add up some numbers. McCutchen has almost caught them (or surpassed them) in every category. The wild card could be J.A. Happ.

The AL does not really have any major contributors, but Gordon Beckham could be the winner, but he has the same problem as McCutchen (called up later in the season). Ricky Romero could also be a strong candidate.

So, what are your thoughts on the subject?

True Blood: Timebomb

As I stated last week, if True Blood kept getting better, I might keep writing about it. Well tonight's episode was the best of the season so far.

First off, I want to say that Godric is the coolest vampire on the entire show. The vampires come to rescue him, and they plan to kill everyone in the church. Godric comes in and pretty much lets them know that they will not harm anyone. He believes the vampires and humans can live together and that vampires embarrass themselves by not being more evolved than they are.

On the Maryann front, she cooks Eggs and Tara a souffle with Daphne's heart in it. They love it, then get real weird. Like start beating the shit out of each other. Sam is accused of Daphne's murder, and only Drunk Andy can help him out.

Back at Godric's house, Lorena comes to confront (try to make a fool of) Sookie. She attacks her and Godric steps in. He belittles her and says that she is the worst kind of vampire, old and still savage. He says that he can snap her like a twig and that she should never come back to his area. Luke comes to the party and decides to unleash a bomb, which is how the episode ends.

Some cool moments/lines
-Godric's line about wishing he could have met Jesus. I would like to see the show address a vampire who met Jesus at some point, maybe say how he was not all that special, or that he was, whichever.

-Jessica's predicament. She will always be a virgin. Her hymen grows back every night. That's pretty messed up.

-Eric calling out Bill. "Are you picking a fight? I would like to see you try." Seriously Bill, Eric would destroy you, calm down.

-I love how Jason is at the party talking to some chick when Luke walks in. Looks like the old Jason is back...

-Eric also had some other great lines, like telling Sookie (after she says about the bond between maker/vampire) "do not talk to me about things you do not understand." And then after she says something about her love with Bill "do not talk to me of things I do not understand." I am paraphrasing here.

-Jason's awkward hug with Bill. Just fit the characters well.

-"I sodomized a pine tree."--BEST LINE EVER

Okay, so I cannot wait until next week's episode. And for Gideon, a picture of Eggs' abs.

Wow, a post without hot chicks. This one is for the ladies (and Gideon)

Girlfriend of the Week

Since being back from vacation, I thought "wow, who could make a good GOTW?" Then during one of my lazy, hangover days of watching every episode of Royal Pains OnDemand it came to me. Jill Flint. She plays the hot love interest of Hank on the show. I cannot seem to find out how old she is (although, I find it hard to believe that she would be a major administrator of a hospital since she looks pretty young, but hey, what do I know?)

Actually who cares how old she is, she is definitely legal, and I would definitely let her do some administration on me. I have no clue what that even means.

Vacation Part Two

Last week I was on vacation, and like usual, I am going to pretty much force my exploits down all of your throats. Yes, I am evil.

It started out with a bang. Friday night my brother calls me to go out to the Pub in Philipsburg. We drink, shoot pool, and have a fantastic time. Unfortunately, nothing all that insane happened, so I will not go into the minute details.

On Saturday, I hung out with Kacie, which is always a fun time. We watched movies and just relaxed. Very nice, I needed it after the week of work I had. Sunday, I packed up my things and headed on down to Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, I had to go because of mine and Steve's court date.

I thought court was on Monday, but I was wrong and it was definitely on Tuesday. So, I went over to Mugshots and got drunk with MCA and Steve. We then drank at Steve's place with Nicole (nothing like drinking until 5:00 a.m.)

Tuesday comes and we head to court, which gets postponed yet again! Talk about annoying. Hopefully this will end in October (especially with the jerk in jail).

So, I headed on home and packed more stuff up and headed to the beach. That is where some insanity happened. Let me explain what a few days of drinking all day can be like with me. I sometimes say things you should not say to people in public.

The first night (after doing way too many shots at a few bars), I hopped on the bus to head down to the club. There was this ugly, skanky whore on the bus. She was talking to my friend and I. She kept saying she was 31 and that she used to be a stripper. She also kept asking these 16 year old girls if they wanted to do coke, which they declined. Here are some of the things I said to this woman:
"31? Are you fuckin' insane? You are definitely pushing 50, maybe 60."
"You did coke when you were 15? Look girls, this is what happens when you do drugs. You shrivel up and become a whore."
"You were a stripper? You couldn't pay me enough to see you naked."

These kind of insults kept going on and on. She thought we were going to pay her cover to the club (it was like $25). When we get to the door, she says "I am with them" (we had free passes). I then respond "like hell, why would we bring a nasty, old whore into a club with hot chicks everywhere?" She ends up paying the cover and following us around.

Inside the club, I got ridiculously drunk and stumbled around a bunch. I then proceeded to get a cab and go back to where I was staying and pass out. This was impressive because when I was sober I could not remember the address or find the place.

The next ended up getting crazier. I met these cool people, who happened to be Philly fans, at a Steelers bar. They were older than me, but they loved just making fun of everyone. We sat at the bar and just verbally abused everyone we could. Yes, I am mature. Needless to say we went to a few bars together, shot some pool (I won), played shuffleboard (I lost) and took over the jukebox at some little dive bar.

I later went to another bar and got plenty drunk yet again, and watched my friend try to get into a fight. After calming that situation, I met some Pittsburgh folks and started a nice Steelers chant, which started a nice verbal war between us and some Ravens fans. We ended up on the bus continuing the verbal battles. Needless to say it was pretty fun.

I came back home and pretty much let my body heal up. I went to work on Monday, and then had two more days off. I went to Champs on Monday night, then out to the Pub and then Suttons on Tuesday.

It was an excellent time, and I am completely rested up and ready to get back to work. Okay, that's a lie, I wish I could stay on vacation. I need to hit the Powerball.

Best Served Cold

The other night I finished reading Joe Abercrombie's newest book Best Served Cold. This is a stand alone novel which deals with revenge. It is set in the same world as the First Law Trilogy, but uses different characters.

The book is very dark, funny, and action packed. Seriously, I read the last 500 pages Sunday night, I could not put it down. The best review I could find for the book is here.

I decided to have fun again, like I did for the First Law, and I will cast the characters for the movie. I will probably have spoilers in each character description.

Monza Murcatto
The star of the book, apparently beautiful, but also deeply scarred and crippled. She starts out seeming like a cold-hearted bitch, but as the story goes on we see a different side to her. Granted, she still wants revenge and will stop at nothing to get it, but maybe all those ideas about her we hear in the beginning are not so true. My first thought was Rosario Dawson, but she just does not seem right. Then it hit me, Kristanna Loken. She is hot, and has done a few movies where wields a sword and kills people. She also has that cold bitch thing down from Terminator 3 (yes it sucked, I know).

Benna Murcatto
We only see Benna in the first chapter before he is murdered. After that we get to see him through a series of flashbacks and we learn a bit more about him. At first he seems quite innocent and simple. He does not fight, enjoys looking good, and making money. He even seems to want to give up their warrior lifestyle. Unfortunately, we learn that this is not the case. We learn that he was the one who butchered an entire city, and his sister took the blame. He murdered a rich merchant and stole his money (under the pretense that they were going to protect him), and he conspired to overthrow Duke Orzo and have his sister become the Grand Duke of Talins. So, we need someone who looks like they are a really nice guy, but in the end they are a vile person.

Who better than Emile Hirsch? He is a good actor (Into the Wild, very good movie), girls think he is attractive, plus he can pull off the "I seem really nice, but guess what, I'm a dickbag" role.

Caul Shivers
My favorite character of the book. Shivers is a Northman, just like Logen Ninefingers in the First Law Trilogy. Actually, Shivers was in those books as well. He was the guy who wanted revenge against Logen for killing his brother and nailing his head to a door. He goes through the book trying to be a good man, he does not want to kill people, but the money is good and he is good at it. After he loses his eye though, he starts to actually relish murdering people.

They describe him as big, muscular, and very wild. It's hard to think of an actor who could portray him. Honestly, I think a professional wrestler would probably be best. You need someone who is bigger than most people, looks like they should be wielding a battle-ax. But, Alexander Skarsgard (from True Blood, and pictured in the post below) is 6'4, and is pretty ripped. I bet he could pull off Shivers. He also has the ability to act, probably more so than some roided up wrestler.

Friendly
Friendly is a murderer. He also seems to be a bit autistic about numbers. He counts everything. I would say he needs to be played by someone bigger, but not huge. Someone who looks kind of creepy, maybe even mildly retarded. As I read the book, I kept picturing him to be like the guy from The Jacket, no not Adrian Brody or Daniel Craig, the creepy guard at the nuthouse, who later becomes an inmate. Brendan Coyle. Tell me that is not the guy who should play Friendly. Give him a cleaver and let him battle it out with Shivers!

Nicomo Cosca
The great soldier for hire, now a raging alcoholic. We saw him with Glokta in the last series, and he was quite entertaining. His character only gets better. We learn that his soldiers never really fought too many battles, and that he has no problem accepting money from both sides.

He is one of the tougher ones in my opinion. I have a mental picture in my head, but unfortunately I cannot think of any actor who resembles it. My best guess would be someone like Gerard Butler. I know what you are thinking, and yes his being in 300 proves he can do the whole warrior thing, but have you ever seen him in anything else? He mostly does crappy rom-coms. So, that leads me to believe that he can at least be funny on occasion. And Cosca is probably one of the funniest characters. He never shuts up, constantly bragging, and most of the time trying to avoid actually fighting. When he does fight though, he has the ability. I guess the reason I like Butler for the role, would be the one scene in 300, where he is eating the apple and says "There is no reason we can't be civilized." Very funny, because he is stepping over dead bodies. That is Cosca.

Plus, Butler looks like the kind of guy who has woken up from a three day bender and said something like "where the hell am I?"

Castor Morveer
I think the description someone used for the master poisoner was slimy pig. He is someone who gets under your skin, he also comes across as very intelligent and full of himself. His mouth is his own undoing. Making fun of Cosca and basically giving Cosca a reason to quit drinking. I have read in some reviews that he is this books Glokta, and I guess I can see that, except that Glokta was likeable (well for a torturer).

I racked my brain for someone who fits Morveer, and the best I could come up with is Brad Dourif, the guy who played Grima Wormtongue in LOTR.

I like this picture because it reminds me of the scene where he has Shivers and Monza paralyzed when he first meets them and he is explaining how much money he will charge for each killing.

In fact, the more I look at this picture, the more I see the scene taking form in my mind. Pretty cool.

Shylo Vitari
An underused character in this book, in fact she was in the previous books as well, and little used there. Remember, she was the one that was sent to watch Glokta, and he was constantly afraid she would murder him in the night and that people would find his body floating in the river.

Anyways, she switched to Glokta's side once things went downhill and we learn that she has kids and that is why she was hellbent on surviving. If I remember correctly. She parts ways with the company and I wonder if the reason for that is maybe her own standalone book? Apparently Abercrombie is doing another standalone, and it seems odd that this character never seems to get closure or much action...

We know that she is a redhead and that she is pretty good looking. She also can be pretty ruthless, her comment to Cosca regarding Monza was one of my favorites of the book. She says "that is one stone-hearted bitch." Cosca tries to play it down, and Vitari responds "It was a compliment." Very cool.

Obviously you do not actually need a redhead to play her, wigs and dyes are available, but there are some pretty hot redheads out there. I think Laura Prepon would be perfect. You may remember her from That 70s Show or more recently as my GOTW. Despite what many people think because of her role as Donna (they usually played her up as more of a tomboy), she is actually very hot. The scene describing Vitari when they meet her says she is standing in a doorway and that she has a hard look to her. Also, we get to see her dressed like a whore at one point, and I would definitely want to see Prepon dressed dirty.

Plus, Vitari constantly delivers funny little retorts and jabs at the other members, and if you remember, Donna was pretty much a smart ass, so it goes well together.

I will not try to cast each and every character the group set out to kill, but I will with the three big ones: General Ganmark, Prince Ario, and Grand Duke Orzo.

Ganmark
The Union General sent down to Talins to help Orzo (remember King Jezel is married to Orzo's daughter). Ganmark is described as being a prick. He reminds me of some of the officers in the first books: cocky, self-important, d-bags. Also, he openly admits that he is gay and would rather have sex with Benna than with Monza.

He is athletic though, and you need someone who could have a fantastic sword fight with Monza and Cosca. Well okay, you just need a great fight choreographer. So, who could play a cocky deuschbag? How about Adrian Grenier from Entourage?

Prince Ario
Another not very likeable character. He is the son of Duke Orzo, and instead of having any useful abilities, he would rather spend his time at the whorehouse (nothing wrong with that). That is how Monza kills him. This is such a minor role, and honestly, any young actor could probably do fine. I do not know why, but I kept picturing Orlando Bloom in my head though. Maybe I just wanted to see Bloom stabbed in the throat.

Duke Orzo

Not really someone you need to have a big star for or anything. For some reason, Jeremy Irons always kind of floated in there. I could see Irons admitting to Monza that he did not want to kill them, but Benna was trying to rally people behind her to overthrow him. I do not know why, I guess I think he's a good actor, whatever.

Alright, so there you have my cast for the book. Feel free to agree or disagree. I am sure Ryan will share his own feelings on the subject.

True Blood

As many of you are well aware, I watch True Blood on HBO. Last season I stopped writing about it because even though it was a good show, it was nothing spectacular (in my opinion). Well this season has definitely changed my opinion.

Last season the story mainly revolved around Sookie and Bill's relationship, the serial killer, and Jason's crazy girlfriend. The Remy twist was cool, and Jason having sex with every girl in the town was great, but other than that, it was kind of boring and repetitive (oh, Bill did something dumb, Sookie runs to Sam, Sam loves Sookie, blah blah blah).

Fortunately this season, we have a much cooler set of stories, with much stronger characters. The Mary Ann story is probably my favorite. I kept trying to figure out what kind of being she was (I kept leaning towards Circe from the Odyssey) and the big revelation was that she is a type of being, Dionysus/Satan/Kali...very cool stuff.

Also, learning more about the vampire world makes me happy. Being a history lover, I love to see how their government is structured with Kings and Sheriffs and whatever else there is in their political systems. Also, seeing Eric's origin was awesome.

The Fellowship of the Sun story has been great though. How crazy are these fanatics? They really want to go to war with vampires? The preview for next week does not look like it will end well for them. Oh, and Eric better have a giant broad sword at some point.

Anyways, just thought I would throw out there some thoughts on the show. Anyone else care to let me know what they think of the season so far, favorite story lines, whatever.

Planet Hulk

As you know, I get pretty excited for these videos, the Hulk Vs. ones were cool. I need to pick up the Green Lantern one, probably on Monday.

So, I just saw these and figured I would post them as well. Warren Ellis is writing them (or is involved somehow).

World's Greatest Dad

Last night I watched World's Greatest Dad, which is a dark comedy from Bobcat Goldthwait. The film stars Robin Williams as a struggling writer/teacher, who has a teenage son who can be slightly difficult. Okay, never mind, his son is an asshole.

His kid accidentally hangs himself during a little auto-erotic asphyxiation. Williams decides to make it look like a suicide. The suicide note he makes up becomes a huge inspiration and transforms Williams into a popular individual.

The movie is pretty hilarious. Mainly some of the stuff that comes out of the son's mouth, but also the awkward moments of Robin Williams trying to bond with anyone. If you enjoy dark, morbid humor, then you will like this movie.
