The Pensblog and Archer

If you read the Pensblog, then you have probably seen some Stephen S.'s artwork, if not click here and check some of it out.  He has gotten a job as an illustrator for Archer, which as you know, is one of my favorite shows.  Buy some of his artwork so he can move to Atlanta...

Also, here is a funny video of the show.

Royal GOTW

Sorry that I am late getting this week's GOTW up, I was up all morning watching the Royal Wedding.  Okay, that is not true whatsoever.  I worked third shift, and fell asleep when I got home.  I figure since everyone was all focused on how hot Kate Middleton looked in her dress, I would take this moment to remind you that no one gives a shit about British royalty.  Can anyone remember the last time they were relevant?  Me neither...

Now here is a hot queen:  Mary, also known as Bloody Mary.  She was great, killed a bunch of Protestants and that is pretty much good enough for me.  Not too many pictures out there of her, but I work with what I can get...

This is a costume called Bloody Mary.  I highly doubt that the Queen actually killed the Protestants herself, but hey, the chick looks pretty good.

This is Sarah Bolger portraying the sexy queen on The Tudors.  I am not sure how old she is in this picture though, she could have been 17, which means that I would be a very dirty individual for making comments.

And now, the real Queen Mary, mmmm, what a sexy woman.

Last Weeks Television

Now this is what I am talking about, all week long there were good shows.  Actually, if there were any more shows, my head would probably explode.

Justified
Someone tries to killed Raylan and Winona.  They are being watched by the rest of the U.S. Marshalls, but that does not stop Raylan from giving Tim the slip and doing his own investigation.  He first confronts Mags Bennett and she says it was not her (although Doyle shows up and makes some very nasty threats).  Mags says she did not have him killed because Coover was an idiot and that was her fault and she made a deal with Raylan's Aunt Helen.

Raylan then figures out that it was Gary (Winona's ex-husband) who hired someone to kill Raylan.  He takes Gary to see Wyn Duffy and informs him that the next time he sees Wyn he will just start shooting and call it self-defense.  He also tells Gary to leave the country, since Wyn was going to kill him after Raylan was dead.

The other side story involves Boyd asking for Arlo's help in robbing Dickie Bennett.  Dickie recognizes Arlo and at the end of the episode pays Aunt Helen a visit.  She will not tell him where Arlo is hiding and as she goes to raise her shotgun, Dickie shoots her.  Wow, could Dickie be any more retarded?  I thought he was the brains and Coover was the muscle, but the more I see Dickie in action, the more I realize he is an idiot.

Archer
I honestly think I like this show more than It's Always Sunny.  Both are funny, but there is a bit of intelligence behind many of the Archer jokes.  The season finale was pretty awesome.   Sterling brings home the girl who saved him in Russia, who was a spy for the KGB, Katya Kazanova.  Everyone thinks she is a double agent.  Hilarity ensues.

Barry also makes a return, after the KGB turns him into a cyborg (with a great narration of the six million dollar man...)  Barry is still pissed that Archer dropped him off a building, not once, but twice and sodomized his fiance.  As Sterling and Katya are about to get married, Barry attempts to toss Sterling off the roof, but Katya intervenes and plummets to her death along with Barry (who, because he is a cyborg, is unharmed).

I am sure next season (which we get three episodes in September to go with Always Sunny) will feature some pretty funny ramifications over her death.   Or most likely not, Sterling will just sleep with a bunch of prostitutes and make great jokes about everything.

Supernatural
Okay, not the greatest show out there, but it is fun.  I will say that I enjoyed the Back to the Future II reference at the end.  For those who have no clue, Sam and Dean went back to the old west to help Samuel Colt kill a Phoenix and retrieve it's ashes (long story, do not worry about it).  They succeed, but are brought back to their time before they can grab the ashes.  At that moment there is a knock on the door and a package is brought in by a mailman, who says that he and the guys have had a bet for years as to whether or not it is real.  They dismiss him and open the box.  There are the ashes they need and a letter from Colt.  He says that he got their address from Sam's thingamajig (his cellphone).  It was pretty amusing.

Treme
I realize that many of you do not watch this show, and that many of you who tried to watch it, felt it was way too slow.  Whatever, I like it.  Here are just a few of my thoughts:
-Do they really want us to feel bad for Sonny because he no longer has Annie?  Seriously?  I kept hoping he would get shot in the club.
-It was pretty cool of Davis to clean his apartment for Annie.  I loved that he just threw away the dishes instead of washing them.
-Janette looks pretty miserable working in NYC.  I have a feeling she is going to stand up to that chef.  Or continue going to bars looking for guys to have sex with.
-At first I thought when Terry (the cop) asked about what Sophia knew, he was referring to something between he and Toni, but then it occurred to me that Toni must have lied to her daughter about her dad's suicide.  I can see why she is concerned about Sophia making those youtube posts and ranting just like her father.
-My favorite part of the episode had to be when Delmond is at the party in NYC and the two guys start trashing New Orleans and how his music does not sound anything like "that minstrel show."  He tells them they have no idea what they are talking about.  His girlfriend says that she has heard him say similar things, but he says that it was not the same.  This is so true, you can trash your city or where you are from.  When an outsider starts doing it, you get defensive.
-I think that Delmond will eventually return to New Orleans and help his father out.  Maybe he will embrace his roots and become a better musician...

The Killing
Ahmed Bennett (that name is everywhere, I also live on Bennett Lane, weird) becomes a major suspect.  It turns out that he and Rosie were exchanging letters.  He claims it was an intellectual discussion.  We then learn that he met his wife while she was a student and they used to pass letters to each other.  She was out of town that night and Ahmed decided to cancel the company that was supposed to refinish the wood floor.  He said he was going to do it himself.  The police find chemicals at his place that could have been used to wipe away evidence.  Is Ahmed a serial killer?  I am guessing his chances went way up, maybe 85%.

Game of Thrones
Joffrey is such a monster.  Hell, Tyrion even says so.  He tries to get Sansa drunk, then he cuts the butcher's boy, who is playing with Arya.  He then attacks Arya and is going to kill her, when her dire wolf attacks him.  Arya throws his sword in the river.  She runs away and when she is finally found, Joffrey has told a different story.

Sansa could easily corroborate Arya's story, but instead she says she does not remember.  The king decides that Ned will punish his daughter and he will punish his son.  He then makes fun of his son for losing his sword to a little girl.  The Queen wants the dire wolf killed and since Arya's has disappeared, they will kill Sansa's.  She tells the King's Justice to do it, but Ned says that the wolf is a Northman, and it is subject to their ways and that he will kill it.

As he goes to kill Lady, they show us Bran and you can hear the other wolves howling.  When the knife sound is heard and the wolf dies, Bran wakes up.  Very exciting.

Okay, I have a spoiler here, so if you have not read the books, stop reading right now.

As many of you know, I have a theory that Rhaegar and Lyanna (I am not the only one with that theory) are Jon Snow's parents.  I love how during the scene where Drogo is pounding Daenarys from behind, she stares at the dragon egg and the fire surrounding it, we then focus on the flame and pan back to see Jon staring into the fire on his way to the Wall.  Hmm, could be a little hint?

Fantasy Baseball Week Three

What the hell happened to my team?  Ryan destroyed me this week 8-1.  We tied wins, saves, and holds.  Everything else, Ryan owned me.  The only stat I won was stolen bases.  Ugh.  I am starting to get worried.  I do want to mention the one bright spot on my team:  Mike Stanton.  He hit two homers and batted .400 this week.  Hopefully his leg is no longer an issue and we can see him start crushing the ball.

Pitching-wise, my team was not too bad, Ryan's was just better.  Carl Pavano (I dropped him) and Daniel Hudson (he gets one more week) basically killed my ERA and WHIP.  Drew Storen seems to be making a push for the closer role in Washington.  He picked up two saves this week.  Thanks Drew.

This week I take on James.  I am 16-17-3 and in 7th place.  Ryan moved into first place.

Other league:  my team apparently cannot hit during the week.  I went from second to eighth, and then back up to sixth after the weekend.  Infuriating.

Easter Video

Okay, this is the last Easter post, I promise....

Easter Part Two

I could not resist to post some more Easter stuff.  I will be out at my grandparents all day playing cards and eating ham (I am sure this is the entire reason Jesus rose from the dead...it had nothing to do with wanting to eat brains).  Enjoy some of these funny pictures.

I love the last one.  He looks so serious and yet Jesus holding a rifle, it looks so damn right.  Hmm, maybe in the next Dark Tower book, Roland and Jake can meet the Man Jesus and teach him their saying...

"I do not aim with my hand; I aim with my eye.
He who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.

I do not shoot with my hand; I shoot with my mind.
He who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.

I do not kill with my gun; I kill with my heart.
He who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father."

~Roland of Gilead~

Oh, and Oy would definitely kick the Easter Bunny's ass.

Happy Easter Folks!

Keep waiting everyone...

Girlfriend of the Week

This week's GOTW is Kara Cooney, an Egyptologist at UCLA and from the show Out of Egypt.  I have watched it a few times, it is not bad.  I figured this would be fitting for Good Friday.  Plus I already used that Mary chick already...

Green Lantern Preview

Finally starting to get very excited for this movie.  I had doubts at first, but it looks pretty solid.

Wait, What?

As I sit here reading up on my normal afternoon sites (mainly stuff about fantasy baseball), I have the television on and was vaguely paying attention to some program on History International.  The show was about the Anasazi people of the southwest.  Do not fear, this is not going to turn into a historical discussion.

When they started to discuss the people leaving the Chaco Canyon (or disappearing), I naturally assumed that History Channel would make this into some alien astronaut debate or something similar.  Instead they had actual historians and archaeologists discuss different theories that sounded like plausible ideas.  And yes, I just checked to make sure I was actually watching History International and not the Science Channel or something like that.  How weird....

To be fair, I have no clue if this says something about the crappy programming on History or if I just assume every show on the channel will be about aliens.  If this were an Ancient Aliens program though, they would take that picture of Chaco Canyon and try to show how it corresponds to some constellation.

Pay To Play

Yesterday on Cory Giger's show, he discussed the recent budget cuts in schools and how some schools will have to start charging kids a fee to play sports.  From what I heard, most of the callers seemed okay with this since many of the other extra-curricular activities already have to pay money (i.e. band, chorus...).  The only fear from many people was the slippery-slope.  When does $50 turn into $100 or even more?

I was very tempted to call and give two responses, unfortunately I was driving to Johnstown and lost the program.  My first response was going to be a semi-smartass comment.  Something along the lines of:  if parents cannot afford to pay the fee, just keep the kid out of sports and let them stay at home and play video games.  Get it?  Video games are expensive.

My second comment was an actual solution to this problem.  If kids/parents are going to have trouble paying this fee, why not make the kid get a part-time job?  Work one or two days a week, even if it is only for a few hours.  I realize this does not work for younger kids, but for the ones 15 and older it certainly does.

The Place That Shall Not Be Named is always hiring.  If a kid would come in and be up front about the limited schedule and the reason for working, we would try to find a job for them.  If you go up and down the boulevard in Altoona, you will see that almost every restaurant has a sign that says NOW HIRING.  And do not give me any bullshit about not being able to work because you are too busy.  We have employees who play multiple sports or participate in band and they find the time to work one or two days a week.

Just one solution to a minor problem.  I should run for mayor.

Fantasy Baseball Week Two

How does the person who owns Troy Tulowitzki (the new God of Baseball) lose 8-4?  Honestly, if you told me that Drew Stubbs would hit .360 with 2 HR/2 SB this week, and my newest pickup, Alex Gordon would hit .455 (I think about half a week), I would say that them, along with God, would lead me to a victory.  Well I would be dead wrong.  Imler beat me.

Adam Dunn and Angel Sanchez hit under .100, Markakis and Stanton hit under .200, that did not help.  Hell, if you told me that I would rack up 74 Ks and yet only two wins, I would have said you were crazy.  This is one of the things I love about baseball.  I destroy in HRs/RBIs/Saves/Ks, yet could not win any of the rate stats.  Imler got a stolen base from Aubrey Huff, he had seven last year.  If he does not get that, we tie that category.  If Martin Prado does not steal a base (he stole five last year), I win that category.  What the hell?

Anyways, this puts me in second place behind James (hmm, the guy that I said had the best team based on my odd projections...)

On a side note, in the other league with Ryan and Offord, I went from 9th place to 2nd place because of my team's weekend play.  I realize this kind of early season turn-around can happen, but I figured my team would stop slumping together and eventually move up slowly.  Instead they decided to just destroy the ball that weekend.  I had pretty much the worst hitting team going into Friday.  These are the hitting stats for Friday-Sunday:  28 Runs, 12 HRs, 29 RBIs, 6 SBs, .315 AVG.  My average prior to the weekend was somewhere around .230.  That brought my team average up to .249 (still not great, but no longer the worst).

Game of Thrones Premiere

I am sure you are all aware of how anxious I have been about the premiere of HBO's new series Game of Thrones.  Well it is finally here and it did not disappoint.  Since I read the books, I will not give any guesses as to what will happen throughout the series.

I love the entire cast, there is not one single choice that was made that I do not think fits perfectly.  My favorite choice so far is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister.  He was the unknown actor that I really thought could make or break the show.  The scene where he sends the whores into Tyrion's room to speed up the process was great, but he absolutely nailed the "things I do for love" scene.  For those of you that never read the book, trust me when I tell you, hating Jaime is a hard thing to do.  I think he will end up being the next Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd...

I do want to mention the wedding between Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen.  I have heard some people on the internet saying that the end scene was very rapey (to steal a word from Jim Jeffries).  In the book, Khal Drogo is much more tender towards Daenerys (and the entire wedding ceremony kind of got her in the mood, if I remember correctly).  Also, the way her brother would beat and treat her made her more responsive towards Khal Drogo's tenderness.  During the sex scene, she keeps thinking to herself that "I am the blood of the dragon."  It becomes her mantra throughout the series.  On a side note, the guy playing Viserys (Harry Lloyd) is perfect.

I do have a complaint though, the White Walkers from the beginning, that was not what I pictured.  Fortunately they made up for it by having an incredible opening credit sequence.  All was forgiven.

Girlfriend of the Week

You do not even want to go guess how I found this week's GOTW.  Okay, maybe you do.  I wanted to find a picture of a sexy Virgin Mary.  Well the first image I found was Haifa Wehbe (a Lebanese model/singer) and I decided to just use her instead.  Hey next week is Good Friday, maybe I can be offensive to Christians that day.  Anyways, I truly believe Lebanese women are up there as the most beautiful women on the planet.

Curve Home Opener

I went to tonight's Altoona Curve  home opener (two years in a row, woo-hoo) against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.  The Curve won 2-0 and looked pretty good.  I got there early enough to see the unveiling of the Eastern League Champions banner (it is out in center field, so I did not take a picture, plus it is just a blue/red banner, nothing spectacular).

Aaron Thompson was the Curve starting pitcher and he pitched very well.  He pitched four innings of no-hit ball with only one walk,   He finished with 6.0 innings pitched, two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.  The first hit he gave up was a lead-off triple to Jose Flores.  He then struck out Juan Perez and got Johnny Monell to ground one to third baseman Jeremy Farrell, who was playing in and was able to throw Flores out at the plate.

In the sixth inning Joel Weeks (no relation to Rickie) singled to lead off, Farrell then made an error, and after a sacrifice bunt, there were runners on second and third.  Thompson then struck out the next to batters to get out of the inning.  I have no clue how accurate the scoreboard radar gun was, but Thompson hit 89 most of the time and 90 a couple others.  I never saw anything above 90 mph.

The Curve hitters made Eric Surkamp look very good.  Starling Marte, Jordy Mercer, Tony Sanchez, and Miles Durham all struck out, but then Quincy Latimore doubled up the third baseline.  They finally scored their first run when Sanchez walked and then scored when Durham hit a double in the fourth inning.  Jordy Mercer hit a home run in the fifth inning to make it 2-0.

Marte hit a single to right field in the seventh inning, then stole second base.  He moved to third base on a ground out by Mercer to the first baseman.  He then got caught in a rundown on a ground ball hit by Sanchez to the third baseman.  Sanchez was able to get to second, but it was identical to the play against the Squirrels earlier.  With the infield playing in, I would think Marte would stay close to third on a ground ball hit to his side, maybe I am wrong.

The other guy I wanted to really see was Brock Holt, who played second base and lead-off.  He hit the ball sharply each time, but twice to the second baseman and twice to the outfield. Also, relief pitcher Michael Dubee made a great catch on a hard bouncer up the middle.  He moved out of the way and caught it behind his back then turned to throw the runner out.

The triple by Flores was a ball I thought could have been caught by Latimore.  He seemed like he was going to catch it, then slowed down to play it off the wall, but since he was so close to the wall and where it hit, the ball bounced past him and Marte had to field it to throw in.  Not too many triples off the LF wall...

Lineup
Brock Holt 2B 0-4
Starling Marte CF 1-2, HBP, SB, K
Jordy Mercer SS 1-4, HR
Tony Sanchez C 1-3, K, BB, Run
Miles Durham 1B 1-4, 3 Ks, 2B, RBI
Quincy Latimore LF 1-3, 2B, BB, K
Jeremy Farrell 3B 0-4
Brad Chalk RF 3-4

And now for some pictures and videos.  I love going to minor league games, for $10 I was able to sit in the second row behind home plate by the visitor's dugout.

Brock Holt

Starling Marte

Tony Sanchez

I think you can see that Holt hits the ball hard.  If not, just take my word on it.

The Curve closer Noah Krol has a funky sidearm delivery and does not seem to throw very hard, yet this was him getting a strikeout.

The Killing

If you watch shows on AMC, you have definitely seen the previews for The Killing.  I watched the first three episodes (the season premiere was the first two episodes) and so far have enjoyed the show.  The basic premise is a girl is found murdered and the show is about the investigation of the killing and the effects this has on key people.  Also, the show keeps it creepy with the muted colors and eerie music.  Plus, they must have sent out a casting call that said "if people sometimes suspect you of murder or child molestation, please see the BlahBlah Casting Agency."

I am going to introduce the characters and give you my odds of them being the killer.  I do believe that the killer has been introduced.

Sarah Linden
The lead detective who is trying to leave Seattle.  Her boss is forcing her to stay and solve the crime before she can leave.  She must have been a smoker because she chews gum like a fiend.  Also, her son is miserable about moving to Sonoma.  There is no chance of her being the killer.

Stephen Holder
Sarah's replacement.  This is his first homicide case.  He is a former narcotics/VICE detective and is used to making drug busts.  He is completely different from Sarah.  He gets in people's face, asks dirty questions, and generally shows little respect.    He also can be a bit creepy.  He goes to the high school and offers some young girls some weed and then asks where they could go party.  Apparently this is not actually a drug, but some kind of fake-marijuana that cops use...sounds shady to me.  At the heart of it though, he is still a cop and I give him only a very small chance.  1%.

Darren Richmond
The city councilman who is running for mayor.  The dead girl was found in one of his campaign cars.  Luckily for him, the car had been reported stolen.  His wife died at some point and that is how we see him at the start of the show, visiting her grave.  Also, he is sleeping with his adviser and there seems to be something kind of shady about the guy.  I honestly do not believe him to be a killer, but I would not rule out there being some weird serial killer deep inside of him.  5%.

Stanley Larsen
The girl's father.  I am going to have to put him on the zero list.  He has a great alibi and his wife would probably have noticed if he left their camping trip.  He seems like a good guy, since he allows the kids to eat chocolate chip pancakes for dinner.  I am going to give him a 1% chance though because shows/movies love to go with that unexpected twist (if he were the killer, it would be really dumb.)

Jamie Dempsey
Darren's campaign manager (who I think was wrongly framed for being the leak in the campaign).  I could see him either being a serial killer or him thinking that a murder like this would somehow help Darren's chances.  Or maybe he is a pervert and ran into Rosie after she had just been raped and decided to have some fun with her.  10%.

Bennet Ahmed
Rosie's teacher, who Stephen asked if he had a thing for the younger girls.  He seems to have a very creepy eye on Rosie and her friend.  My comment above about Jamie, really could apply to Bennet.  After the two deuscheboys had their way with her, she may have run out of the school crying.  Bennet saw this and probably caught up with her and tried to comfort her.  He then told her how he always thought she was beautiful and that is when things got out of control.  Main problem:  why did he end up stuffing her in the trunk of that particular car?  30%.

Rick Felder
Sarah's fiance and probably the creepiest character on the show.  He would have absolutely no motive, but from the creepy factor alone, I have to put him at 25%.

Jack Linden
Sarah's son.  He seems pretty pissed off about moving to Sonoma.  Maybe he killed Rosie in order to force his mom to stay in Seattle.  He may be small, but he is very strong.  Okay, that one is a stretch.  0%.

Jasper Ames and the other Kid
Jasper was Rosie's ex-boyfriend and apparently he is very rich.  He and his friend are seen in the video raping (well it appears to be rape, maybe Rosie was down with being gangbanged) Rosie at the school.  These two are the top suspects and at the moment I have to put them at 50%.  I go this low because there are ten episodes left, unless the rest of the show is about them trying to find the evidence they need.

11 April 2011

Fantasy Baseball Week One

For the first week of the season I took on Gideon.  It was not really much of a battle.  I destroyed him 11-1.  The only category that Gideon won was Holds.  I was down by two wins Sunday, but then I got two big wins from Derek Holland and Drew Storen.  I figured CC Sabathia would pick me up a win, but nope.

I had some big weeks from a few guys, such as Ryan Zimmerman and Carlos Ruiz.  Tulowitzki hit three homers, but had a low average.  My biggest hitter was Jose Tabata 11 Runs, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, 5 SBs, and a .342/.457.  I am sure he cannot do that every week, but it would be nice if he was even close to that.

Sabathia had three starts this week.  This was was his line 17 Ks/1.45 ERA/1.29 WHIP after those three games.  How the hell does he have a 0-1 record?  My best pitcher was probably Bronson Arroyo with two wins and eleven strikeouts and a very nice 2.08 ERA/1.08 WHIP (not at all bad for a guy who was sick leading up to the first game).  I picked up Kyle Drabek after his first start.  He had a good second start, we shall see how that pans out.

After the first week I am in first place.  Next week I take on Imler, who beat Jason/Nick 6-5-1.  Offord won his matchup, but Ryan lost his.  And for the rest of the readers out there, I promise there will be no more baseball posts this week.

Fan Gets Tasered Beat and Arrested at PNC Park

I guess this came from Saturday night's game.  You could hear people chanting U-S-A at one point, but they never mentioned what happened.  Apparently the left field area was pretty crazy.  I love the girl in the background yelling at the cops to stop hitting the guy.  Look, if he can take being tasered, then he is probably drunk or on something else.  Good for the cops for protecting themselves by getting him to the ground.  He did not look like he was hurt or anything, screw him.  Do not be a jack-ass at a baseball game.

Pirates Opening Day 2011

For those of you unaware, I was at the Pirates home opener on Thursday.  This was my third opener in a row (I went down for the 2003 opener against the Red Sox, but the game was rained out, or maybe it was the second game, whatever).  I hope to continue this tradition for a long time.  Unfortunately, my friend Steve was not able to go this year.  Fortunately, Lindsey was able to go and we had a fantastic time.

Sadly, the Pirates lost the game and if you are expecting any in depth coverage of the game, well I am sorry, that is not really what you will find here.  Go to WHYGAVS or any to Pirates Booty.  Instead, I will tell you about the adventure that took place.

We got up early and left so that we could check into our hotel and just walk to the game.  We stayed at the Wyndham Grand.  I did not realize it was such a classy hotel.  We pull up in my super-cool, non-bear destroyed Yaris and are greeted by the valet.  This was new to me.  I normally stay in shitty motels where the guy tells you to park in back by the dumpster.  Also, the bellhop wanted to help me with my bag...all I brought was a backpack, I told him I could manage.

We drop our stuff at the room and hustle across the bridge to the stadium.  Ryan tells me where he and his friends are tailgating and we make our way over there.  We drink some beers with those guys and then head into the game.

We sat in the front row of left field.  It was such a great day for a game.  Sunny and warm (I got a little sun-burn on one side of my face).  The saxophonist from O.A.R. performed the national anthem, which was pretty good.

The guy behind us had his five year old son with him.  He was teaching his kid about gambling, which seemed a bit odd to me.  He was telling him who they had to root for on the board because daddy had money on those teams.  I am not a huge gambler, so I really have no clue how people bet on baseball games.  While Jose Tabata was warming up, the dad yells to him in Spanish for a ball.  Tabata tossed it to him and the dad had to lean way over the wall in front of us to catch it.  Pretty nice grab actually.

After awhile though, I felt bad for the kid because his dad knew nothing about the Pirates (or baseball in general).  He told his boy that Pedro Alvarez is from Venezuela and that Andrew McCutchen was on the All-Star team.  Me and two guys beside us decided to make fun of him for a good chunk of the sixth and seventh inning.

Once the game ended, we walked over to McFadden's and met up with Ryan.  We had a couple beers, but then everyone had to leave.  Lindsey and I went over to the hotel and decided to get ready for dinner.  We went to SixPenn to eat.  The food was very good, but as with all fancy restaurants, I always feel like I am starving when I leave.

After dinner we went to a bar called Olive or Twist (get it?) and drank a few beers with a couple we ran into while walking around town.  They were pretty cool for about thirty minutes, but after that I was definitely getting tired of listening to the dude talk.

We got pretty drunk and went back to the hotel and went to bed.  The next day we got up and decided to go to the Waterfront for breakfast.  Lindsey wanted to try IHOP, or as she called it:  IOP.  Apparently the H is silent.  The food was decent, but the place was not very organized (I am guessing it must have opened very recently).

Our plan was to go to Lindsey's cousin's (Danielle, who is married to Brent Johnson) house and see the new baby and then meet up with her friend and go to the Pirate game.  We could not go see the baby until around three, so we had a lot of time to kill.  We went to Target and then drove around in the rain for a few hours.  We basically saw most parts of Pittsburgh.  We visited the family and then met up with her friend at Bahama Breeze in Robinson.  At this point we were decidedly against going to the game because it had been raining hard all day.

Once dinner was over, we finally came home.  I was exhausted.  I had to work at 6:30 a.m.  I wish I could have been at Friday night's game, but at the same time I am kind of happy we did not make it.  I would love to be at an exciting extra inning game like that, but only if I did not have to work super early the next day.  Also, I figured there would be a rain delay for sure.  Oddly enough, once we left the city and the game started, the rain stopped.

It was a fantastic time and I cannot wait to go to more games this year.  I already have a few lined up and I am going to try and organize something huge, so I will let people know about that at some point...

Here are the rest of the pictures from the game...

They claim that Carlos Gonzalez is 6'1, but I really do not believe it.  He came much closer a few times and he looks to be about 5'10 or so...

The Pirates can never get rid of Ryan Doumit.  Only because I love hearing Danzig's "Mother" when he comes to bat.

This is a terrible picture.  It is of the team warming up.  Way to go photographer...

I bet as they are walking, the pitchers were probably bitching about having to walk all the way back across the field after the opening ceremonies.

Much better than last year's picture with me fondling a statue's balls....

I took this one after dinner.  What a beautiful stadium...

UPDATE!!!
I completely forgot about the kid who jumped over the wall and ran across the field.  Lindsey asked me if that was the first time I ever saw that and I do not think it was, I believe I saw that when I was very young, but I remember something like it.  Anyways, the guys beside me were laughing at how dumb the kid is, since he got tossed from the game and most likely went to jail for the night.  Way to spend Opening Day!

GOTW and a Poll!

Lindsey would like everyone's help:  she bought four bikinis and wants to know which one she should keep.  Actually she asked me and I could not decide, so I figured I would post pictures and let you folks decide.  So here we go...

Motivation

Yesterday I had to go to a seminar for The Place That Shall Not Be Named.  Seminars are generally boring, sitting for long periods of time can drive me insane.  This time was no different and to make it worse, the lady they brought in as a motivational speaker was boring too.  She talked about balancing your work life and your personal life.  I think they should have saved their money and gave everyone $20 and told us to leave 30 minutes early.  That would have been a nice way to balance our work life and personal life...

Anyways, here is a little George Carlin and his thoughts on motivation.

First Fifteen Minutes!

Watch the first fifteen minutes of Game of Thrones

It was very much like the way the book opened.  Plus, it looks like we will be seeing some dire wolves very early on...

Breaking Bad: Seasons One Through Three

As some of you are aware, I am a huge fan of Mad Men and Walking Dead on AMC.  I have heard repeatedly that Breaking Bad is even better than these shows.  Luckily, AMC started showing the entire show, two episodes at a team each week.  I finally finished season three.  This is by far the best show on television.  I want to take a look at the main characters and why they are so good.

Walter White
One of the best characters on television.  He was a chemistry teacher who finds out he has lung cancer.  He decides to start cooking meth in order to secure his families financial needs once he is gone.  He is rational and at times can be very cold.  He kills a drug dealer (Krazy-8) and then later kills the drug dealers that Jesse planned to kill.  At the end of season three he is about to be killed by his new boss, Gus.  He says he will give Jesse up and just needs to call him.  Instead of double-crossing Jesse, he orders him to go kill the new cook.

What fascinates me about Walter is how he created a new persona called Heisenberg.  As the show continues this persona keeps growing.  I love the way his voice will change when he becomes Heisenberg.  There were times when I really thought he would kill Jesse or at least have him killed.  Fortunately, the father/son bond between them keeps Walter from becoming Heisenberg altogether.

Jesse Pinkman
Jesse is a character that you want to root for, but then he will do something so stupid that you also just want him to take a bullet to the head.  It was great to see him kick his drug habit, but then he falls back into it.  I really thought he would let Walter down when it came to shooting Gale.

I love that he still calls Walter "Mr. White."  He has respect for him, especially when it comes to the cooking.  He just does not think Walter has the street smarts.  He is the comedic half to the group and he is great for a funny laugh by calling someone a bitch.

I wonder what he will do when he finally finds out that Walter could have saved Jane from dying?  I really thought he was going to tell Jesse whenever he was sleep deprived and rambling about meeting her dad.

Hank Schrader
Walter's brother-in-law, who is a DEA agent.  He inadvertently introduces Walter to the meth world.  He took Walter on a ride as they were busting someone called Captain Cook.  They go inside to arrest the guy (Krazy-8's cousin) and Walter sees his old student, Jesse, flee.

Later, while Hank is helping to search for Walter, who has been kidnapped by Tuco, he stumbles upon Tuco and kills him.  This gets him promoted and sent to El Paso, where he will try to battle the Mexican cartel.  He almost dies in an explosion and he decides to stay in New Mexico.  He then becomes hooked on the Blue Meth case.  He tracks it to Jesse and almost catches Jesse and Walter, but then a phone call tells him that his wife was in a car accident.

Once he finds out that it was a fake call and that the RV is destroyed, he goes to Jesse's place and beats the crap out of him.  He gets suspended by the DEA.  Gus decides to give the Mexican assassin twins permission to kill Hank.  Gus then calls Hank to warn him.  Gus kills one of them, wounds the other, but is hurt badly himself.  By the end of season three, he is in a hospital bed getting a hand-job from his wife.  He will return home to continue his physical therapy.

Skyler White
She suspected Walter of doing something bad.  Eventually she kicks him out and starts banging her boss.  I really believe she took the high road on Walter because she wanted to screw Ted.  It had nothing to do with her not wanting to accept evil drug money.

Notice how now that she and Ted are boinking, she has no problem with Walter's income.  Especially if it helps Hank get better.  I keep hoping that Ted will get arrested for embezzlement or something.  That would be funny.

Walter Jr.
This is the one character I really hate, but I understand that he is necessary.  He has cerebral palsy.  He goes by the name Flynn, which pretty much makes him a weirdo.

He looks up to his father and would probably go into business with him if Walter just asked him.  I loved when Hank takes Walt Jr. to see the skanky meth heads at the motel.  Also, another great Walt Jr. moment was when he says his mom is being such a bitch.  I actually do a great imitation of him, which is probably pretty horrible.

Anyways, as I said, he is a necessary character.  If you do not have him, then the bond between Jesse and Walter would be less likely.  Walter loves his son, but he did not get to do all those fun father/son bonding things with him that he probably envisioned.  Playing catch, teaching him to drive (without using both feet), and whatever.  When Walter teaches Jesse about the art cooking meth, it is like teaching his own son.

Saul Goodman
My absolute favorite character.  The shady lawyer who helps Walter and Jesse get into the real drug business.  I am guessing the writers of the show envisioned him as the real world version of Lionel Hutz from The Simpsons.

He enjoys getting hand-jobs from his Asian "chiropractor."  He changed his name to a Jewish sounding name because "the brothers" trust a Jewish lawyer over an Irish lawyer.  We at least get to see some of his integrity.  He would not give up the whereabouts of Jesse to his PI (who actually works for Gus), he then gives him a fake address.

Mike the PI
I like Mike.  He has a very dry sense of humor.  He also reminds me of Vic Mackey.  When he tells the story to Walter about how he used to be a cop, I figured that was a slight nod to Vic.  What happened after he gave up his desk job...move to New Mexico and become a PI?  Maybe.

I am excited to see where season four will go.  Will Walter and Jesse make it out of this mess they are in with Gus?  Will Hank learn to walk?  Will Walter Jr. be an annoying piss-ant all season?  Will Saul get a good woman and become an honest lawyer?  Haha, doubtful.
